Real Estate

Mountain towns across the country have yet to settle from the avalanche of home buyers that has been sweeping through states such as Colorado, Montana and California for the past two years.

Thanks to an increase in remote work and a growing appetite for lifestyle home purchases, mountain properties continue to be hot commodities—so much so that inventory has almost been completely depleted.

Luckily, forecasts from 2020 predicted the incoming flurry and new developments were promptly put into the works. Now, as the 2022 ski season approaches, many of these new luxury homes are up for sale.

Check out these brand-new luxury developments in climbing mountain markets.

Ski-In/Ski-Out Townhomes in Copper Mountain, Colorado

Starting Price: $3.85 million

Nestled slope-side in a valley of open terrain, the Townhomes at Born Mountain Club will feature a limited collection of 2,500-square-foot luxury residences set in one of Colorado’s most renowned ski resorts. Floor plans vary with flexible living spaces and four-bedroom (more than that if desired), three-and-a-half-bathroom layouts.

Interior designs aim to emphasize the natural beauty of the community’s mountainside location, replete with an Alpine-inspired use of wood and stone accents as well as an abundance of windows and outdoor living spaces to take in spectacular views. With its own dedicated entrance at the base of A-Lift, the amenity-rich club community will be the first of its kind at Copper Mountain. Listed by Eric Klein of Slifer, Smith & Frampton, two of the six townhomes have already sold.

The DYAD of Olympic Valley

Price: $12.5 million

Custom homes and resort residences often come with features and amenities you might not find elsewhere. One such project taking shape in Olympic Valley—a popular resort area located between Lake Tahoe and Truckee—is the DYAD, an extraordinary land and design offering from world-famous Olympian and long-time Tahoe resident Franz Weber. The cutting-edge concept, designed by noted architect Johann “Hans” Obermoser, is the centerpiece of a four-lot portfolio of slopeside property built into the Palisades Tahoe ski resort.

Renderings for the proposed design showcase an incredible glass-and-wood main house called the “Peak” residence that will sit above ground and is surrounded by ski terrain and a flowing creek. In addition to a glass-floor pool and a Bond-like subterranean garage, the property includes kitchen plans designed by noted chef Wolfgang Puck. Jeff Brown of Tahoe Mountain Realty holds the listing.

Modern Cabin Condos in Whitefish, Montana

Price: $1.15 million

Unlike regular condos which are typically attached to other apartments or townhomes, these three brand new ‘site’ condos in resort town, Whitefish, Montana, allow buyers to own not only the detached unit itself but also the land upon which the unit is built. Located minutes away from downtown Whitefish and Whitefish Lake, these contemporary cabin condos make for perfect vacation homes.

With Whitefish being ranked the number one summer Airbnb destination of 2021 and zoning for nightly and weekly rentals, these units can also serve as a lucrative investment opportunity. Clean lines and sleek use of wood and stone define the interiors for a modern yet cozy finish. Other highlights include a gas fireplace, loft space and outdoor seating areas with views of the surrounding mountains. Garth Boksich of National Parks Realty holds the listing.

Premier Mountain Opportunity in Olympic Valley, California

Price: $15 million

Few large-scale development opportunities remain in Olympic Valley, the third largest ski area in North America, which makes the ALPENGLOW project at the base of the Alpine Meadows Ski Resort. The 47-acre development parcel includes an approved subdivision tentative map and entitlements for a 38-lot development as well as additional parcels for neighborhood amenities. Alternatively, the property could be developed as a single estate offering a seemingly unmatched layer of natural privacy.

Surrounded by U.S. Forest Service land, ALPENGLOW is uniquely positioned between Alpine Meadows and Olympic Valley, offering access to 6,000 ski-able acres and other on-site trails. Each of the home sites is designed to feature incredible views of the surrounding mountains and forest. The development will also have a private entrance accessed directly from Alpine Meadows Road. Jeff Brown of Tahoe Mountain Realty holds the listing.
